Okay. This may or may not work...Leave your nominations for the next recipient of the 'Cerebus Superfan Award' in the comments to this post. Periodically I'll add names to the voting box (located at the top of the right-hand column). Dave didn't say how long you all have to vote, so I've set it to 31 August. Not sure if I'll be able to change that, but let's start with this format and see how we go.I would like to officially nominate 'Margaret Liss', so her name is there already. I'm thinking that employees / financial dependents of Aardvark-Vanaheim are excluded from the definition of 'superfan' (so that would exclude Sean, Sandeep, Funkmaster John etc ... and I'm ruling myself out too!).BTW, in case you were wondering, I voted for Matt Dow just to test it all worked.Good luck everyone!
I think it's gotta be Margaret.
That it could be anybody BUT Margaret...well, the mind boggles.
I nominate Oliver Simonsen for sacrificing much of his own money and probably sanity as well over the years making his "Cerebus" movie. Oliver also is the fan posting the majority of Cerebus news I see on Facebook as well.
Oliver's a great idea...after Margaret.
Hmmm. Apparently Blogger won't allow me to add new nominees once the vote is under way. So, how about we scrap this vote, and have a week of nominations, after which we can then hold a vote with a set list of nominees?Okay, so far we have: - Matt Dow - Margaret Liss - Oliver Simonsen.Sorry about the confusion. With no notice, I'm learning as we go along on this one.Tim
Crossing posing this from the Facebook group:Margaret Liss is the true Superfan. She's the ultra mega supreme fan, an infinite number of adjectives can't begin to describe her fan-ness. When I joined this fandom almost 5 years ago, she more than welcomed me to it, and her sites and efforts enriched my enjoyment of the book tremendously. I thank Dave and Sandeep for the award, but I really don't think I deserve it. Maybe if I manage to finish episode 300 on next Tax Day like I plan, then I may feel differently. But I am honored, even moreso honored that Dave remembered me from the Mighty Morphin Power Aardvark drawing (which hangs by my computer to this day).
Being considered number 2 after Margaret (oops i mean 3 after Margaret and Matt - sorry Matt:)) is indeed a tremendous honor. Thank you so much! Though me having a monetary incentive in the mix (even if nothing comes of that particular aspect to it) probably keeps it from being considered pure fandom - so I think the right thing would be to gracefully bow out...but...but I won't - because I so want this!! Hah! So there! OKok I will...sigh...waugh:( Very nice of you guys, here and in the facebook group, and again such an honor.
Sorry if that was confusing - meant I'm gracefully bowing out lol...well, ok maybe not gracefully:) And I guess that would be number 4 counting Jesse - huge congrats Jesse! Love the video reviews and been reposting on facebook, twitter and blogger each and every one!
Thank you, Oliver. The Cerebus fandom (You, Tim, Sandeep, and Margaret, among others) are doing a great job boosting not only my exposure, but my drive to keep doing this. It's like Dave says in the video about addressing your audience. As long as I'm doing good enough to make Cerebus fans happy with my reviews, then I'm succeeding. Though I do hope it exposes new fans to the books (and helps drive traffic to the downloads site and tumblr).I'm so very much looking forward to your Cerebus movie, which I have no doubt will be incredible and Dave will approve of!
I nominate Margaret for the Lifetime Achievement Award...who after that? What award?
Well I have to join the chorus and say that Margaret is the one who should receive such an honor...Except Dave named me, which means I must be his Goat.Let, I say, Let the Campaign Begin! (Start that is.*) We all know of the many things Margaret Liss has done for Dave Sim in the past, but what has she done for him LATELY?!?**Matt Dow(*With apologies to Jeff Seiler...)((**See the Simpsons episode:"Bart Gets Famous"))
Specifically:Krusty: Aw, heck: now where am I gonna get a danish? Bart: Here's a danish, Krusty!Krusty: Gimme, gimme, gimme! [devours it] Now that's danish! Where'd you get it? Bart: I stole it from Kent Brockman.Krusty: Great! [realizes] Uh, he didn't touch it, did he? Bart: No.Krusty: Good job, kid! What's your name? Bart: I'm Bart Simpson. I saved you from jail.Krusty: [not remembering] Er, I... Bart: I reunited you with your estranged father.Krusty: Er, uh, I don't know... Bart: I saved your career, man! Remember your comeback special?Krusty: Yeah, well, what have you done for me lately? Bart: I got you that danish.Krusty: [grateful] And I'll never forget it.Matt Dow
I'd definitely vote for Oliver Simonsen,His devotion to accomplishing many fans 'dreams' of seeing the great Dave Sim's work on film is quite astonishing. He's been at it for quite some time now never a moment of "where are we going with this, because Cerebus is in his "7th sphere" his heart. It is the one true work that deserves its audience to grow to be reborn and Oliver's goal is to accomplish that... not just make a movie.Umar Stone
If Margaret (my first pick, and not just because her blasted hockey team won the Stanley Cup over mine in 2011) is going to be getting a Lifetime Achievement Award / The Montgomery Burns Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Excellence, then I nominate Tim, the host of our site here, for providing such a valuable and powerful resource for us all to electronically circumambulate on a regular basis.
Here's another couple of potential nominees:Eddie Khanna: His research efforts on SDOAR must be the very definition of 'Superfan', to actually help shape the creative process of the artist is quite something.Ted Adams: Although as Dave's potential publisher for SDOAR, I suspect the fortunes of IDW are not dependent on it's success. Ted has made no secret that he is a huge Dave Sim fan and just happens to be in a position to help Dave financially -- A true Superfan.
I think Jeff and Sandeep should definitley be nominated as well for all they've done and continue to do (this is starting to remind me of the old SCTV episodes with Sammy Maudlin and Bobby Bittman where they sat around talking each other up. SCTV's Solid Gold Telethon. Bobby Bittman starting at the 2min mark: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsTcyis0joIAlso wonder if Dave saw this back in the day and this is where he got the idea for Most Holy asking for everyone's gold).
In addition to seconding the above, I'd also like to nominate retailer superfan Tim F., whose incredibly generous, by request anonymous, donations paid for the majority of the work on High Society, and continue to pay for the ongoing negative scanning.I'd also like to nominate art collectors Greg Kessler and Dean Reeves, who, in addition to supplying scans of their own collections, continue to alert us to new pages owned by others as they become public or go up for auction. Between the two of them and their referrals, they've jointly netted us around eighty odd pages, the majority of what's come through in the hunt so far! Truly super fans, all three.
The campaign has begun, but my name or face on a plaque would be almost as hideous as Dow's.Yeah, I said it, bitch. What?!?Bring it, dude.!U don't know me!!!You don't own me!!!U don't know me!!!Um, well...Ya kinda do...BUT.I.KNOW.YOU.
While you may want a 3t machine an accessable 1.5t machine is better than none at all.The shields network in the NE has 3t machines but you evil need a physicians referal. http://info.shields.com/bid/85107/What-patients-want-to-know-about-MRI-machines-1-2T-1-5T-3T-whats-the-difference
Haven't gotten a chance to watch this week's update, but I'd nominate Rich Johnston as a Cerebus Super Fan. As one of the main people behind Bleeding Cool, one of the web's biggest comics sites, Rich can help drive traffic Dave's way, and he's also one of the few people in the mainstream comics blogosphere who regularly supports and features Dave's stuff.
Ahoy!(I hope this message finds the proper home...) A 3.0 Tesla MRI is available at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, in (wait for it...) Cincinnati, Ohio!513-558-3881http://med2.uc.edu/radiology/patientcare/facilities/msb.aspxLet me know if I can help!
